Luaine Lee, McClatchy-Tribune News Services PASADENA, CALIF. - He's great at making tie-dye T-shirts and handy at Spackling holes in the wall, but Tom Everett Scott isn't good at anything else -- except for acting, that is. The man whom Tom Hanks chose to play the lead in the film "That Thing You Do" is proving his mettle as star of "Saved," an absorbing new TNT series. Scott plays a paramedic on the firing line of casualties and crises. Scott, 35, majored in communication at Syracuse University. After he graduated, he moved to New York. There, he had what he calls "a real moment of clarity of getting it together. ... I was waiting tables, but just partying. Not making a full-on push. I knew: you're going to have to die trying. I'm willing to die trying. So I made this big decision to full-out go for it and work hard at it."
